Steel Flagpoles 100–150 ft: Sizes & Specs Compared

Steel Flagpoles 100–150 ft: Sizes & Specs Compared

Posted by Ameritex Flag and Flagpole LLC on 22nd Oct 2026

A 100 to 150 foot steel flagpole is one of the most visible landmarks a business can own. A flag that size can be seen from the highway, across a shopping center, or over the rooftops of a whole neighborhood. It's also a major investment, so it pays to understand the options before you buy. This guide walks through the five sizes we offer, what's included with each, how to choose the right height, and what the installation process looks like.

Who Buys a 100+ ft Steel Flagpole?

Large steel flagpoles are built for sites where visibility is the point: car dealerships, truck stops and travel centers along the interstate, corporate headquarters, stadiums, military and government facilities, and large churches and campuses. At these heights aluminum is no longer practical. Steel provides the strength and stiffness to carry a 30×60 ft flag in Texas wind.

Steel Flagpole Sizes Compared

All five of our large steel flagpoles share the same construction and components. What changes with height is the diameter, the number of sections, and the weight.

Exposed height Overall length Base / top diameter Sections Weight
100 ft 110 ft 14 in / 4 in 3 5,400 lbs
120 ft 130 ft 16 in / 4 in 4 7,957 lbs
130 ft 143 ft 18 in / 6 in 4 9,800 lbs
140 ft 154 ft 20 in / 6 in 5 11,500 lbs
150 ft 165 ft 24 in / 6 in 5 13,400 lbs

Every size has a 0.500 in wall thickness and is engineered to fly a flag up to 30×60 ft.

Pricing depends on the height, finish and your site, so every steel flagpole is quoted individually, including shipping and installation. Email us for a quote.

How to Choose the Right Height

  • Start with your sightlines. Think about where people will see the flag from: the highway, the parking lot, or across town. If the pole needs to clear nearby buildings, trees or signage, go taller.
  • Match the pole to the flag. A 100 ft pole commonly flies a 30×50 ft American flag. From 120 ft up, a 30×60 ft flag is standard and keeps the flag in proportion to the pole.
  • Consider the site. Taller poles need a larger foundation and more room for a crane during installation. We'll look at your site before recommending a size.
  • Check local rules. Many cities and counties require a permit for a pole this size, and some have height limits. We can help you work through those requirements.

What's Included With Every Steel Flagpole

  • A-36 carbon steel construction with a 36,000 PSI yield point.
  • Seamless steel concentric reducers joining each section, for a smooth, tapered look.
  • 12 in heavy-duty cast aluminum revolving ball and truck with a stainless steel spindle.
  • 1/8 in stainless steel aircraft cable with the flag arrangement and hardware to fly your flag.
  • Stainless steel gearless hand crank winch that locks at any point, with crank handle. An electric winch is available on the 130, 140 and 150 ft poles at additional cost.
  • Corrugated steel foundation sleeve with base plate and lightning spike arrester.
  • Durable finish: each pole is mechanically cleaned and chemically etched, then given two coats of two-part polyurethane primer and two polyurethane finish coats. Standard colors are black, white and aluminum (silver); other colors are available on request.

Our steel flagpoles are engineered to meet the ANSI/NAAMM FP-1001-97 guide specifications for design loads of metal flagpoles.

Installation: What to Expect

A pole that weighs several tons and stands taller than a 10-story building has to be installed correctly. Ameritex handles the work ourselves rather than handing it off:

  1. Site review and quote. We look at the location, access for equipment and the flag you want to fly, then provide a quote for the pole, shipping and installation.
  2. Foundation. We excavate and set the foundation sleeve in concrete, sized for your pole.
  3. Crane installation. The sections are assembled and the pole is lifted into place by crane.
  4. Alignment and finish. The pole is plumbed, secured and fitted with its cable, winch and flag.

We install large steel flagpoles across Texas, including San Antonio and the Hill Country, Austin, Houston and Dallas–Fort Worth, and throughout the United States.

Warranty

Every steel flagpole comes with a 1-year warranty on the shaft and components. When Ameritex Flag & Flagpole installs it, you also get a 2-year warranty on the installation.

Flags for Large Flagpoles

A large flag works hard. Wind and sun wear it faster than a smaller flag, so plan on rotating replacements. We carry American flags and Texas flags in large sizes, made in the USA.
